Meet The Trustees
Neshomo is a Jewish, culturally sensitive, confidential mental health charity for adults. We strive to be accessible, welcoming and accepting of all. Our goal is to improve emotional wellbeing and reduce stigma within the Manchester Jewish Community.
Dr David Marshall
Chairman
David is a consultant psychiatrist, retired from the NHS after working for 25 years in North Manchester General hospital. He now sees patients privately at a medical centre called Perrin Clinic in Prestwich. David deals with people with a range of conditions, including anxiety and depression; and mental illness (psychosis and OCD) .
David has been very involved since 2015 in helping to set up Neshomo and its development to the present.
David trained in Liverpool and Manchester and has MB, ChB, DPM, MRCPsych qualifications.
Elaine Marshall
Trustee
Elaine has been a trustee for Neshomo since it was first founded.
Elaine is a retired community pharmacist and is currently working as PA/Admin for a medicolegal company. She also previously worked as a marriage counsellor For JMC Manchester for over 20 years.
As well as helping Neshomo, Elaine volunteers for a charity packing clothes for Israel families and teaches children who need extra help after school.
Rhona Goldberg
Trustee
After a long and varied career in Optometry working in both the hospital and private sector, Rhona retrained as a Personal Trainer in 2019.
She was previously a governor of Broughton Jewish Primary School and volunteered for NCT for many years. During Covid she trained and worked as a volunteer vaccinator for St John’s Ambulance.
In addition to her involvement in Neshomo, she is currently a volunteer for the Fed and for Camp Simcha.
Pat Joseph
Trustee
Pat has spent her career as a consultant community pharmacist and as a prescribing support pharmacist. She is a serving Manchester Magistrate.
Pat volunteered as fund raiser and Governor for a local Jewish school for many years. She works for Emunah and has edited the Kiryat Gat Calendar for the last five years.
Pat is a trustee for Manchester Hillel House.
Her qualifications are B.Sc. MRPharmS , Dip. Comm. Pharmacy
Michael Lowe
Trustee
Michael joined Neshomo as a trustee in April 2021, having retired from IBM in February. The majority of his career has been spent in technical IT roles, specialising in enterprise grade software used by most of the UK retail banks. He also spent four years as a Technical Sales Manager at IBM.
He continues to do some freelance IT training and also teaches English as a second language. Formerly a Foundation Governor at Broughton Jewish Primary School, he is a member and trustee of Shomrei Hadass synagogue, Prestwich, and T'mimei Lev, an independent Jewish school for special needs pupils.
Shelley Caplan
Trustee
Shelley Caplan is currently one of the Deputy Heads at Broughton Jewish Primary School, having worked there for nearly 30 years. Her main area of responsibility is safeguarding.
She originally worked in Computing, but retrained as a primary school teacher, teaching at King David Infants, Manchester, before moving to BJCFPS.
Shelley used to be a respite carer for young children, and also used to volunteer for CST for many years. She now currently volunteers at Heathlands and also at the Salford Royal Hospital.
